What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is an embedded SIM card that lives inside your device.

It's a small chip which can be programmed to work with any network that supports eSIMs, and unlike a normal SIM it can't be physically removed.

You can have plans from more than one network stored on your eSIM, but you'll only be able to enable one at a time.

What devices support an eSIM?

  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS & XS Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro & 11 Pro Max
  • Microsoft Surface Tablet Pro
  • Google Pixel 2 & 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9
  • Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+

Who offers an eSIM?

There are many providers offering eSIM services now, most allow you to download an app to your device, create an account and install an eSIM profile within a few minutes.

Generally you pre-pay for your data, and have a limited time to use it in ranging from 24 hours to a month.

We have tried and tested the following providers using an iPhone XS:

  • GigSky - enter code "MARK300" for a $5 credit!
  • Airalo
  • Ubigi
  • Truphone
